We have had some incredible success removing historical light oil Cardium wax deposits from our rod string with the Brocal ClearFlow product.  The wells have been shut in for 7 to 10 years and are part of an abandonment strategy in North-Central Alberta.  Historical wax deposits resemble that similar ‘burnt-on oven baking’ in the family’s oven (requiring elbow grease, SOS pads, and chemicals).  It is a challenge unto itself.      

With reference to the attached pictures, when mixing 50 Liters Brocal ClearFlow Tubular Cleaner to 1.0 m3 of shop-supplied 70 degree C fresh water, the results speak for themselves.   

Traditionally, a hot oiler is required.  Combined with rig time, standard wax dispersant chemicals, and auxillary support services.  When balancing $7.00/L over 250 to 300 L of product per well, we have realized a cost savings of ~$3,900 to $4,250/well.       

While placing the Brocal/hot fresh water mixture, we unseat the pump, stroke the rod string about 6’ (1.85 meters) while pumping (to free residual wax from the scrapers/rod bodies), and pump at 185 – 220 L/min to induce a turbulent flow regieme.  Once the tubing is displaced, the pump is reseated for the evening and Brocal does its thing.  Heat, as with any chemical, assists with the wax dissolution.   

The following morning, we over displace the tubing string to fresh water and lay out the rod string.   

Our onsite consultant exclaimed, “THESE RODS ARE FILTHY – SAID NO ONE EVER”.  It is amazing how clean the rods are, and how predictable the product can consistently repeat performance.  No matter the challenge, the rods come out CLEAN (consistently and  predictably CLEAN).  The rods are ready for transportation without risk to the environment or oncoming traffic and ARE re-sale ready.
